5 Holiday Essentials for your Pooch - Approved by a Dog Trainer.

The summer holidays are just around the corner and with doggy staycations on the rise, we’ve rounded up 5 holiday essentials for your pooch – approved by a dog trainer.

With lots of memories created by taking our dogs on holiday, we now have a great idea of what to pack to make it easier for you and your 4-legged-friend.

Keeping Cosy-

As a dog trainer with over 10 years of experience, I’ve always found it best to pack your dogs with their own items. Such as, their bed and blankets. This is a great idea as it makes your dog feel more at home and less anxious with familiar scents around them.

Dog Food-

It goes without saying, I’m sure your dogs definitely wouldn’t let you forget their treats! However, it’s essential you pack the right amount of food for the duration of your holiday, to ensure your dog doesn’t go hungry. Plus, bring treats to reward good behavior, especially within a new environment. In addition, this helps with the obedience of your dog. We would love to see you progressing outside of our sessions when you’re on holiday.

Also, a quick reminder, don’t forget your furry friend’s medication (if needed). Furthermore, if you’re due to run low whilst away, call your vets to order more to avoid disappointment.

Dog Accessories-

You wouldn’t forget your coat for a holiday especially if it’s forecasting rain! It’s essential to pack your pooches rain mac too. Furthermore, an extra supply of poo bags is a must as you never know when you’ll need them.

To keep your dog occupied and their brain stimulated, especially if they’re a pup you need to bring toys! This will keep them busy and distract them from getting bored, as well as making them feel a little bit more at home.

Travel Equipment-

Whatever distance you’re traveling for this year’s staycation, it is always safety first! Following the highway code, rule 57; “When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves if you stop quickly.

A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars.” However you and your dog feel best traveling is your choice, at MNC we are here to help you travel the safest way possible.

Responsible Extras

When going on your adventures, you want to make sure your dog is counted for and safe. Whatever your preference is, ensuring your dog is micro-chipped with all details up to date is really important. Alternately, confirm your K9 is wearing their collar and name tag with your number on.

Some dogs only respond to whistles when calling them back. If this is the case for your furry friend, check you have it packed. This is great in case you want to go on a dog walk and let them off lead so you can recall them. If you’re planning on going for a walk in the dark a torch is a necessity to be a bit safer.

With you and your dogs’ suitcases fully packed, you are all ready for your staycation. If you require any more advice or you would like to enquire about a 1-1 session, please call us on – 077956654474 or 07765521703 for more information.
